Fanfán Tulipán ()
Fanfán Tulipán is a Czech jazz fusion band formed in 2009. Playfulness, originality, groove and unusual instruments. This is the hallmark of Fanfan Tulip, a trans-genre formation with Hammond melodica, piano, saxophone, Estonian zither, music box and energetic rhythms. Playing with imagery is the main impetus behind Fanfán's work. A symbiosis of jazz, funk, film music and chanson with Estonian spices and Morse code rhythms. In the past, the band has won the JazzFruit competition at the Mladí tuní jazz festival and the Czech round of the international Jazz Prix competition. The band was founded in 2009 by composer Eliška Vidomus, who is the author of the repertoire – her compositions are usually based on strong bass grooves and vocal melodies. In the band she plays Hammond melodica, Estonian zither and sings. The other members are: saxophonist Martin Forst, pianist Petr Svoboda, bassist Pavel Husa (Bizarre Band) and drummer Simon Hajdovsky (North Innergy). Fanfán Tulipán has performed at the Bohemia Jazz Fest, Jazz an der Donau, Jazz Goes to Town, Bratislavské jazzové dni, Bulgarian Bansko Jazz Fest and Romanian SoundCzech festivals. The album Genius noci was recorded in 2023 in the SONO studio in collaboration with sound engineers Milan Cimfe and Adam Karlík and with the contribution of several guests: trumpeter Oskar Török (Vertigo, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet), vibraphonist Radek Doležal (Mallet Q) and tuba player Simon Janák (Tygroo). The band also released the single Genius noci in a limited edition on vinyl and created an animated video for it, which was shown at the AniFilm festival.
