Jan Kučera trio + guest: Petr Kalfus

Jan Kučera Trio will perform at U Staré paní. Petr Kalfus will perform as a guest. The Jan Kučera Trio was founded in 1999 and performs with Jan Kučera – piano, Jan Kořínek – bass and Radek Němejc – drums. In 2000, the author's CD Stav beztíže was released, on which the then newly founded string quartet Epoque Quartet plays with this trio. In the course of the following years this trio played together only sporadically. The repertoire is based on jazz standards, but also includes their own compositions.

Jan Kučera ()

Jan Kučera (born 11 October 1977 in Klatovy) is a Czech conductor, composer and pianist, from 2015 to 2021 chief conductor of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra.

Radek Němejc ()

Radek Němejc is a Czech drummer who is known for his collaboration with Karel Růžička and Zuzana Dumkova. He plays mostly his own compositions or arrangements of jazz standards. He also performs in the Jan Kučera Trio.

Jan Tengler ()

Jan Tengler is a Czech jazz double bassist. He started studying jazz in 2002, when he began studying double bass at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory with Jaromír Honzák. He accepted his first professional engagement in 2005 in the quartet of guitarist Roman Pokorný, at the same time becoming a member of the young band Work In Progress, which attracted attention with its high-quality original repertoire. In 2006 he was offered a collaboration with the leading Czech jazz vocalist Jana Koubková, whom he accompanied on festival and club stages for the next two years. Jan Tengler has collaborated with many vocal and instrumental soloists, including John Serry, Walter Fishbacher, Ondřej Pivec, Štěpán Markovič, Olga Škrancová, Yvonne Sanchez, Elena Sonnenshine and many others.

Petr Kalfus ()

Petr Kalfus is a Czech saxophonist. Petr Kalfus studied saxophone at the Music Academy in Katowice, Poland, and continued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He regularly plays in the International Big Band of American jazz musician Ed Partyka or the Jazz Dock Orchestra and is a leader of many smaller ensembles and groups.
